Gothic Novels

I believe action is most effective in Gothic novels to create horror and mystery. Actions that people take can create horrible consequences, which can cause horror. People can also have secretive actions, such as not telling other people what they have done, which will cause mystery for what will happen later in the novel. In Frankenstein, I believe Victor abandoning the monster in his apartment creates mystery and horror. When Victor leaves his apartment and eventually comes back, the monster is gone and he has no idea where he went. I think this causes readers to become mysterious of where the monster has gone or will go. I also believe leaving the monster creates horror because Victor nor readers know what exactly the monster is capable of, so readers might believe he will kill or harm someone. I do not think Victor should of left the monster, especially since it is what he wanted to create, but then there would not of been as much horror and mystery like when he did.

Opening of Frankenstein

Mary Shelley opens her story Frankenstein with four letters from Robert Walton, an explorer traveling to the North Pole to find a passageway from the Pacific to the Atlantic, to his sister. In his letters, Walton describes difficulties he faces on his voage, and how he feels like an outcast compared to his fellow crew. He feels as though he is more intelligent than them, so does not feel like he belongs. Along the way to the North Pole, Walton and his fellow crew find a weak, starving, man that is close to death. At first, Walton is curious about the stranger, but end up finding out they have a lot in common, such as their knowledge. If I were to creat a ghost story, I would start off by describing the characters that are most affected by the ghost and the situation they are in. I would then bring the ghost into the story and describe the characteristic of the ghost, such as, if he/she were mean or nice.

If I Did Not Have Electricity/ Electronic Devices

If all electricity and electronic devices ceased to work I would not have much to do during my free time. I spend much of my time on my phone, honestly too much time. Whenever I am not on my phone I watch tv or use the car to go somewhere. If I could not use my phone, watch tv, or drive somewhere I would be one bored person. I would probably spend my free time sleeping, which means I will be sleeping all day everyday. So, I would have a very miserable and boring life. After a while, I would get bored of only sleeping all the time, so I would find another activity to do.
